This past year we applied for a grant to receive three new computers through Teaming for Technology (T4T) Colorado. T4T has a program through a partnership with IBM to supply non-profits with new computers. BethHaven was one of eight non-profit organizations, and the only one in Colorado Springs, to receive the grant. This fall we were given three brand new IBM/Lenovo desktop computers. Two of these computers were set up in the basement of the BethHaven house for the residents to use. In the past we have been lucky enough to get donations of computers for the residents, but often these computers are older, and do not tend to last very long. Now we have two brand new machines that our residents can use to get information online and keep in touch with their friends and family. The third computer was used to replace our Administrative Assistant/Bookkeeping computer. This has made it much more convenient to run the programs required for this job. Not only did T4T supply us with these computers, but there was also training that occurred afterwards to make sure that the computers would last BethHaven for a long time.
With these additional computers we now have two computers in the basement of each house for our residents to use. Many of our younger residents were excited to be able to have access to the internet right in the house, and some of the other residents have begun to set up e-mail accounts and learn more about what type of information they can now access.
